The coaching staff reassigned the position of several players: JR Williamson was moved to center to backup Jim Otto, Doug Brown went to defensive tackle, Jim Moss to left safety, Claude Gibson to left cornerback, Bill Budness to left linebacker, and Jim McMillin to right safety.

Transactions

The Raiders acquired fullback Bob Jackson from the Chargers. The means of acquisition weren't entirely clear. Some reporters speculated that Jackson was simply on loan from San Diego, though Chargers head coach Sid Gillman denied it. Still, none of the stories specified what the Chargers received in return.

The team waived three defensive backs: Herm Urenda, Bob Levingston, and Roy Peck. They also placed linebacker Maury Schleicher on the taxi squad.
