•	As an outgrowth of an existing and unresolved schism among National League owners a rumor was making the rounds that the Phillies and Athletics might merge with [[Connie Mack]] managing the team and Phillies manager Bill Shettsline taking over as business manager

•	Both Shettsline and Mack scoffed at the idea with Mack calling it “presposterous”
