Roger Dearborn Lapham, Jr.
Born November 11, 1918, New York City
Died January 2, 2000, Pebble Beach
The elder Roger Lapham was a shipping magnate who had been San Francisco's mayor for a stretch in the 1940s. His son bought Art Beckett's share of the AFL's Oakland franchise when Beckett sold out less than a month after the team's formation. Lapham himself sold off his share of the team as part of the major reorganization in January 1961.
