The team filed a protest with the league over the Jets’ signing of Utah State placekicker Jim Turner. Turner had been cut by the Redskins last year and, according to an agreement with the league, the Raiders were given right of first refusal over any Washington castoffs.

The team’s coaching staff went off in different directions across the country to scout college players who were just reporting for spring practice. The process was expected to last about a month.
