The American Football League announced their schedule. The Raiders were set to open their season on September 2 in Miami as the first regular season opponent of the expansion Dolphins. Their home opener was scheduled for September 18 against the Chiefs. The builders of the new Oakland Coliseum committed themselves to having the facility ready for use by that date.

The Raiders' season finale was slated for December 11 at home against the Broncos.
