• Wide receiver Art Powell, halfbacks Bo Roberson and Clem Daniels, and cornerback Fred Williamson reaffirmed a decision they had made several weeks ago not to play in the August 23 exhibition against the Jets in Mobile, Alabama, to protest the “whites only” seating policy in Ladd Stadium
• Offensive lineman Dan Birdwell left the team after learning of his father's death in Big Springs, Texas, but was expected to be back in time for the Jets game
