With George Flint set to miss most of the season rehabbing from a knee injury, head coach John Rauch tabbed rookie Jim Harvey to start at right guard for the season opener against the Dolphins on September 2. Rauch also planned to start Dan Conners over Bill Budness at middle linebacker.

The Raiders placed wide receiver Bill Miller and halfback Dave Alexander on waivers. They also placed tight end Ken Herock and guard George Flint on the reserve list. Herock had left camp several days ago and his return to pro football was uncertain.
