Powell did not comment on the reason for his absence, though it was assumed it was related to his wife's desire to move to Toronto and Powell's request of a trade to Buffalo. General manager Al Davis said late arrivals by veteran players were not unusual, but that the team would fine Powell an undisclosed amount of money.
