Marty Feldman

Martin Feldman
Born September 12, 1922, Los Angeles
Died December 5, 2015, Los Gatos, California

Marty Feldman was the second assistant coach Eddie Erdelatz hired after becoming the Raiders head coach in 1960. Feldman took over the defensive line, mentoring the likes of Carmen Cavalli and Charley Powell. When Erdelatz was fired two games into the 1961 season, the team tabbed Feldman to take over. Feldman went 2-10 his first season with an undermanned team and when he started 1962 with five straight losses, the Raiders dismissed him in favor of Red Conkright.

Feldman was a standout guard at Stanford on both the football and rugby teams and stayed at his alma mater for several years after, coaching the freshman football team. In 1955, he became the line coach at the University of New Mexico and took a similar position at Los Angeles Valley Junior College the following year. In 1957 he was hired by San Jose State to coach the line and remained there until Erdelatz came calling.

After the end of his Raiders tenure, Feldman went into the sporting goods business, and did some freelance scouting work for San Jose State on the side.
