In the Dolphins' regular-season franchise debut, Miami's Joe Auer took the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, but the Raiders came back with ten second-quarter points and earned a 23-14 win in Miami.

Rookie running back Pete Banaszak missed the game, having been called to take a physical for potential military service.

New linebacker Bill Laskey suffered what was deemed a “mild” concussion and wasn't expected to miss next week's game against the Oilers. Other players with aches and pains from the game were guard Wayne Hawkins, who was shaken up at one point, and middle linebacker Dan Conners who missed a few plays with a muscle cramp in his foot.

Before the game, the Raiders conducted two separate trades with the Bills. In the first, they traded their sixth-round pick in the 1967 draft for linebacker Bill Laskey. Then they re-acquired the draft pick by sending defensive tackle Dave Costa to Buffalo.

Also before the game, the team placed defensive back Willie Williams on waivers and activated guard Richard Tyson.
