In their first ever meeting with an NFL team, the Raiders lost to the 49ers, 13-10, at the Oakland Coliseum, closing out the preseason.
The team made several moves prior to the game, signing wide receiver Warren Wells, who had cleared waivers with the Chiefs a few days earlier. They also released rookie quarterback Rick Egloff and placed halfback Larry Todd on injury waivers.
They also released halfback Nate Johns. He had been waived by the Chargers a little over a week ago and had been signed sometime after that by the Raiders, though it wasn't announced in the press until his release.
