The name of Oakland native and Stanford receiver Chris Burford came up from time to time in early discussions of the team when local scribes were imagining ideal rosters. He had been signed by Dallas and when asked by Oakland about the possibility of trading for him, Texans owner Lamar Hunt said Burford had specifically asked not to be traded there. Burford claimed that he changed his mind when the team hired Eddie Erdelatz, and was now open to the idea.
