January 30 – The American Football League awarded a franchise in Oakland to eight Bay Area residents: Art Beckett, Harvey Binns, Don Blessing, Charles Harney, Ed McGah, Robert Osborne, Chet Soda, and Wayne Valley.

February 4 – Hired William Hayes as lead counsel.

February 9 – Hired Eddie Erdelatz as head coach.

February 10 – Hired Ernie Jorge as offensive line coach.

February 23 – Art Beckett sold his share of the team. Roger Lapham, Jr. purchased Beckett’s share from the other owners.

March 2 – Hired Marty Feldman as defensive line coach.

March 3 – The AFL awarded the signing rights of the following players to the team: defensive back George Blanch, lineman Clord Boyette, defensive tackle Willie Boykin, defensive end Carmen Cavalli, quarterback Fran Curci, fullback Purcell Daniels, center Jim Otto, tight end Gene Prebola, quarterback Sam McCord, end Dan Edgington, halfback Abner Haynes, end Don Norton, tackle Bob Parker, and lineman Jim Woodard.

March 5 – Signed free agent quarterback Ed Hino.

March 22 – Hired Tommy Kalmanir as offensive backfield coach.
