Locals were excited, though there were plenty of questions, like where were they going to play and who should coach the team. Eddie Erdelatz was mentioned. One prescient commenter said the team needed to play in Oakland. If they played in San Francisco, they weren't going to draw much. (michelson, ot)

Former Cal star Joe Kapp was immediately mentioned for quarterback and he was quoted as being interested. So were fellow former Bear, end Jim Carmichael, and Oregon State halfback Paul Lowe who was briefly in 49ers camp last year. (schoenfeld, ot)

The new owners issued a public statement thanking everyone for their efforts and acknowledging there was much work ahead. (ot)

The league said the Oakland team would have a chance to stock their roster from a selected pool of players consisting of those who had signed with other teams. Dallas owner Lamar Hunt said colleges were teeming with good players, too, far more than the NFL could use. (ot)

The Oakland City Council announced they were fully behind an effort to build a multi-purpose stadium in the city and suggested that it could be used to attract major league baseball, too. In the meantime, the expectation was that the team would have to play in one of the two San Francisco facilities, Kezar Stadium or Candlestick Park, in the short term. Several funding methods for a new stadium were under consideration, including both private and public money. (ot)

Ed McGah said he was prepared to lose money in the short term and that the owners were “pretty loose with a buck in a sensible sort of way.” He wasn't very happy about the prospect of playing in San Francisco and pointed out that he owned a plot of land in Hayward that could be used for a stadium. Chet Soda said that none of the owners expected to make a living from the team. Harvey Binns said the team was the “greatest thing that ever happened to Oakland,” and gave most of the credit to Robert Osborne. Wayne Valley tempered everyone's enthusiasm by pointing out there was a lot of work to be done, and right away. (gallagher, ot)
