July 13 – Wide receiver Joe Borich and defensive back Leon Akins did not report to training camp. Signed free agent wide receiver Al Hoisington on or before this date. Signed free agent fullback James Nixon. Trade of tight end Doug Asad to the Bills for tackle John Dittrich was voided when Asad announced his retirement.

July 14 – Waived halfback Tony Teresa. Signed free agent tackle Charles Brown on or before this date.

July 17 – Defensive back Alex Bravo retired.

July 18 – Released fullback Ed White, cornerback Ben Brown, and guard Blayne Jones. Defensive back Mickey Bruce left training camp voluntarily. Wide receiver Jerry Burch did not report to training camp.

August 28 – Waived linebacker Joel Walenta, linebacker Elvin Basham, quarterback Chon Gallegos, wide receiver George Boynton, and defensive tackle Bob Voight. Boynton and Gallegos soon cleared waivers and were put on the taxi squad.

September 3 – Acquired defensive end Dalva Allen and tight end John White from the Oilers in exchange for Oakland’s fourth- and fifth-round picks in the 1963 draft.

September 4 – Waived offensive lineman Glen Hakes, defensive tackle Jim Norris, defensive tackle Jim Brewington, tight end James Nixon, wide receiver Al Hoisington, and fullback Willie Simpson. Simpson soon cleared waivers and was placed on the taxi squad. Placed defensive back Hank Rivera and defensive end Riley Morris on the injury deferred list. Placed halfback Gene White and wide receiver Bob Coolbaugh on the injured reserve list.

September 13 – Waived quarterback MC Reynolds. Acquired quarterback Cotton Davidson from the Texans for the signing rights to tackle Fred Miller and Oakland’s first-round pick in the 1963 draft.

September 14 – Waived quarterback Don Heinrich.

September 18 – Waived defensive back Mel Montalbo. Montalbo soon cleared waivers and was placed on the taxi squad.

September 21 – Signed Minneapolis/St Paul draft pick defensive back Rich Mostardi. Activated quarterback Chon Gallegos from the taxi squad.
