In a long-anticipated move, Chet Soda stepped down as general manager, but said he had no “immediate plans” to sell his share of the team. Head coach Eddie Erdelatz quickly disavowed any interest in the post, saying he wasn't ready to quit coaching and didn't think a person could do both jobs well at the same time. Assistant general manager Bud Hastings was thought to have the inside track to be Soda's replacement.
