The Berkeley Gazette reported that cornerback Fred Williamson had joined wide receiver Art Powell in requesting a trade. According to the story Williamson was hoping to go to New York and take advantage of the media attention he would garner there.

The paper also reported that Powell was suing the Chronicle for reporting that he had been experiencing racism from his neighbors in Richmond. The amount of the suit was $1 million.
